Electrostatic spray disinfection has been used to disinfect facilities for years. COVID-19 has brought cleaning and disinfection to the forefront, and the service has become much more prevalent.

Although it may sound fancy, electrostatic disinfection is a method of disinfection that is easy to understand. It is a process that quickly and evenly coats a surface with a disinfecting solution. The electrostatic applicator gives a negative charge to the disinfecting solution as it exits the nozzle, allowing the solution to stick to a targeted surface with 360-degree coverage.

The process is fast and safe for people, plants, animals, office equipment and a variety of different surfaces.

Reasons to Adopt Electrostatic Disinfection

Many companies have developed new technology to improve electrostatic spraying’s applications in cleaning. We’ve recently had the pleasure of testing EvaClean‘s cordless Protexus Electrostatic Spraying System. We’ve come to find that the practical uses and benefits of electrostatic disinfection are endless.

1. It is faster than traditional methods.

Going across every surface with a microfiber towel is much more time consuming than running a light spray of disinfectant over a surface. Electrostatic disinfection is so quick that it has the potential to dramatically cut down labor time and costs. With the right technology and chemicals there should be very minimal residue with a quick dry time.

2. It prevents the spread of common viruses, HAIs and COVID-19.

Disinfection is a vital step to prevent the spread of infection. The EvaClean electrostatic disinfection system includes disinfectants that are EPA registered with kill claims against viral, bacterial and fungal infections including TB, C. Difficile, biofilm and a one minute kill claim against Coronavirus.

Infection is spread when details are overlooked. You may do your best to thoroughly clean all surfaces, but it’s easy to miss a surface that you thought someone else cleaned. An area that would traditionally require five people to disinfect only requires one person with the EvaClean system.

Another common issue we see when we go on walks with prospective customers is that they aren’t sanitizing the right areas. For example, we’ve seen someone “disinfect” a patient chair at a dialysis center without cleaning the under part of chair arms. Patient after patient are putting their hands in the same exact place, yet it is consistently overlooked. Electrostatic disinfection removes this worry because it provides 360-degree coverage and is easy to use in tight spaces.

3. Touchless application reduces cross contamination.

When you wipe down one surface with a microfiber towel there is the potential that you can transfer those microbes to another surface. Using color coded microfiber towels can help prevent cross contamination, but there is no guarantee. When disinfection is touchless, you reduce the potential of transfer completely.

My manager is concerned about the impact electrostatic disinfecting may have on our electronics. Is it safe to use on more complex electronics than keyboards and monitors? And if so what disinfected is used to protect those items? Do we get to select the disinfectant?

Thanks for leaving a comment! When it comes to electrostatic disinfection we prefer to use the disinfectants we’ve selected. We know that they are safe for people, plants, animals and meet the CDC’s recommendations in response to the current pandemic. Electrostatic disinfection is safe to use around electronics as long as it is from a distance. You have the ability to decide which areas of your facility get electrostatically disinfected and which do not. We can always wipe down more sensitive areas you are concerned about. Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information. Thank you!
